Speeding and aggressive driving are two of the top concerns reported to my office. While any Councillor can't direct police operations, we have strong working relationships and clear communication channels with both City traffic operations staff and Hamilton Police. We take these issues very seriously in Ward 11, and residents can help make enforcement more effective.

When you contact our office about speeding or traffic issues, we forward your concern to two places: City Traffic Operations and Hamilton Police's local Crime Managers.

City Traffic Department handles long-term solutions like speed bumps, but these require traffic studies first. There's currently a backlog of investigation requests. Staff prioritize based on risk factors - pedestrian safety concerns, sightlines issues, and school zones get priority. You can track your request's progress on the Service Map

linked in our response emails.

Hamilton Police use your reports to target enforcement efforts. The Traffic Safety Unit deploys resources based on known problem areas, and your reports help build that picture. Beat officers are also frequently in our neighbourhoods on patrols assisted by these reported areas.

Take immediate action: Use Hamilton Police's Aggressive Drivers Program to report problem drivers right now for speeding and aggressive driving.

This lets police track specific drivers and patterns while you wait for traffic studies and enforcement deployment. Keep reporting what you see - both departments need resident input to identify problems and focus resources effectively.

If you have concerns about trucks that you think may be off-route (please not that trucks can temporarily leave trucks routes for the most direct final path to their destination) you can report them on the city/police joint interaction map here:

Slow Down, Safety Zone Lawn Signs

To address vehicle speeds and to promote safer streets for all road users, the City of Hamilton has produced lawn signs that are intended as a reminder for motorists to slow down when travelling on residential streets. Residents are invited to use the “Slow Down, Safety Zone” lawn signs on their property (one per household). You can pick up your signs at any of our Municipal Service Centres. Our ward has a MSC at 4280 Binbrook Road in the old Town Hall beside the Glanbrook Arena for your convenience. They are open Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm.
