I want to share an updated look at the current safety picture in Ward 11, based on Hamilton Police’s ongoing reporting. While police continue to track long-term trends going back five years, the most meaningful information for residents is what we’re seeing right now in 2025 - and how it compares to our typical patterns as a rural–urban ward.

Violent Crime: Stable and Within Expected Ranges

So far in 2025, Ward 11 has recorded 116 violent crime cases, which is consistent with our five-year average of roughly 10 cases per month. We continue to see stability in this category, and Hamilton Police remain active and present across rural and suburban neighbourhoods.

Property Crime: Remaining a Key Focus Area

Property crime totals 382 cases year-to-date, which aligns closely with our five-year trend for this time of year. Although 2024 saw higher-than-average property crime city-wide, the current 2025 numbers indicate a more typical pattern for our ward.

Auto theft, break-and-enters, and theft from vehicles continue to be the most common issues, and these remain a regular topic of discussion between my office and police leadership.

October 2025 Snapshot: What Happened Last Month

Ward 11 recorded 23 police-reported incidents in October, broken down as follows:

  • Auto Theft: 8

  • Assault: 7

  • Break & Enter: 4

  • Sexual Violations: 2

  • Robbery: 1

  • Theft From Auto: 1

These numbers reflect the typical monthly distribution we see in our ward, with property crime remaining the dominant category.

Firearm-Related Incidents: Still Extremely Low

Ward 11 continues to see no shootings in 2025, and our long-term average remains below one incident per year. This remains one of the strongest safety indicators for our community.

Traffic & Road Safety: A Continued Area of Concern

Traffic-related activity remains high across Ward 11 — something common in rural wards with growing suburban populations.

Calls for Service (Traffic & Community Concerns)

  • 168 calls in October

  • 1,741 calls year-to-date

The top three call types were:

  • Motor Vehicle Collisions (22)

  • Suspicious Activity (15)

  • Driving Complaints (11)

Collisions

Ward 11 has seen 375 collisions so far in 2025, with 24 in October (20 non-injury, 4 injury). This aligns closely with our five-year monthly average of roughly 29 collisions Ward Report - Ward 11.

Road safety - especially along high-volume rural routes - remains one of my top advocacy priorities.

My Commitment to You

I will continue sharing regular updates so residents have a clear, honest picture of what’s happening in our ward. My office remains in close communication with Hamilton Police Service to ensure concerns are addressed quickly and resources are allocated where they’re needed most.

If you ever see something in your neighbourhood that concerns you, please contact my office or Hamilton Police - community reporting makes a real difference in keeping Ward 11 safe.
