Haldibrook Road (Highway 6)
There is current work at Haldibrook Road that is part of the Preliminary Design and Environmental Assessment phase, not construction. The construction timeline remains unchanged with work scheduled for 2028 by the Ministry of Transportation Ontario (this is not a city managed intersection). Environmental and engineering investigations are currently underway, with Public Notices to be issued shortly. The Environmental Assessment is expected to conclude by summer 2026, after which the ministry will proceed to Detailed Design and Contract Preparation.
While no interim safety improvements are currently planned, the ministry's Operational Traffic Engineering team will review Highway 6, including Haldibrook Road, to assess whether any short-term safety measures may be warranted at the urging of Councillor Tadeson.
Once Public Notices are distributed, residents are encouraged to submit comments to the project team to ensure their input is included in the public record.
Regional Road 56 Bridge Work
The bridge rehabilitation project (Contract C15-15-24(BR)) involving Bridges 126 and 464 on Regional Road 56 between Golf Club Road and Guyatt Road is nearing completion.
All structural repairs at Bridge 126 (where the temporary traffic signal is located) have been completed. The remaining work includes minor concrete curb restoration, paving, and line painting, which is expected to be finished within the next two weeks. Following completion, the roadway will reopen to two-way traffic.
Binbrook Road
Work is progressing on Binbrook Road at Fletcher Road and Royal Winter Drive. We hope to have an update soon! Make sure to sign up for Mark Tadeson's Ward 11 newsletter to stay up to date on the latest Ward 11 municipal and community news!
Ward 11 Asphalt and Sidewalk Upgrades 2025
Road maintenance season is well underway across Ward 11, and I wanted to give you a clear picture of what's been done and what's still coming.
Asphalt Overlay Program
The City's asphalt paving crews have been working through our rural roads since June 9th, with the program scheduled to wrap up by August 28th. This isn't just about laying fresh asphalt, crews are also tying in driveway approaches, installing new pavement markings, and topping up granular shoulders to match the new road height.
Why does this matter? Rural roads take a beating from weather, farm equipment, and regular traffic. The overlay program extends the life of these roads significantly and makes them safer for everyone, whether you're driving a family car, a pickup truck, or navigating around a combine harvester.
You've probably noticed some noise, dust, and traffic delays as work progresses. That's the reality of road maintenance, but crews are working efficiently to minimize disruptions. If you have specific concerns or questions regarding construction, you can contact roadwaymaintenance@hamilton.ca directly.
Sidewalk Improvements
Alongside the road work, the City is replacing concrete sidewalks at 22 locations throughout Ward 11. These aren't random picks, they're addressing sidewalk sections that have become safety hazards due to age, tree root damage, or settling.
The locations include:
Multiple addresses on Binbrook Road, Garth Trails Crescent, and Kopperfield Lane as well as several spots on Great Oak Trail, Kaufman Drive, and Marion Street and
several individual addresses on Fall Fair Way, Homestead Avenue, and Wills Crescent
Good sidewalks aren't just about convenience, they're about accessibility and safety, especially for families with strollers, people using mobility devices, and anyone who chooses to walk rather than drive.
The Bigger Picture
These maintenance programs represent smart fiscal management. Overlaying roads costs a fraction of full reconstruction, and replacing problem sidewalk sections prevents costly liability issues down the road.
Construction season is never fun for anyone, but this work sets us up for years of better, safer infrastructure. The inconvenience is temporary but the benefits last years.
