Putting People First: Prioritizing the Glanbrook Recreation Centre

As your Ward 11 Councillor, I know how important it is to build up local services that meet the real needs of our growing community. That’s why I’ve introduced a motion to make sure the Glanbrook Recreation Centre—complete with an indoor pool, gymnasium, and walking track—remains a top priority in the City’s infrastructure planning.
Here's What You Need to Know about the Recreation Centre
We’ve been working toward a new community recreation centre for some time. In 2024, the City funded a Feasibility Study to assess construction options. Since then, we’ve seen real progress: following multiple public engagement sessions, the preferred site for the new facility has now been officially identified as the City-owned land next to Glanbrook Arena on Binbrook Road.
However, while the vision is clear, the infrastructure planning still lags behind.
Water and wastewater servicing work for the site hasn’t yet begun. Right now, infrastructure projects are moving forward around the arena without ensuring that the Recreation Centre is fully factored in. That’s a recipe for missed opportunities, higher costs, and potential delays.
My Motion to Council
To prevent this, I’ve brought forward a motion that will:
✅ Officially designate the Glanbrook Recreation Centre as a municipal priority for Ward 11
✅ Lock in the Glanbrook Arena property as the preferred location
✅ Require staff to report back by Q3 2025 with a full feasibility analysis, including servicing needs, planning impacts, and any necessary Official Plan Amendments
✅ Prevent development approvals that could compromise the Recreation Centre’s ability to move forward until that report is complete
This isn’t about slowing things down—it’s about doing things right, the first time. Our community deserves a recreation hub that is built into the fabric of local development, not tacked on as an afterthought.
Why It Matters
This motion ensures that developers, planners, and City departments are working from the same playbook. It protects the future of a facility that will support families, seniors, youth, and residents across Glanbrook and Binbrook for decades to come.
I’m committed to making sure Ward 11 doesn’t just grow—it grows smarter. This Recreation Centre will be a cornerstone of that future.
As always, thank you for staying engaged and for helping to shape the future of our community.
