New Comfort Station at Binbrook Conservation Area

This summer, visitors to the Binbrook Conservation Area will find a new, more accessible washroom facility at the beach area on Lake Niapenco - a meaningful upgrade that's been a long time coming.
How It Got Built
The project moved forward through a motion I brought forward that allowed the City to act as a bridge financier for the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority.
Council approved up to $500,000 from the City's Unallocated Capital Levy Reserve as a loan to the NPCA. The NPCA will repay the full amount at an interest rate of 3.02% - an annual payment of $109,234.64 - through its operating budget over five years. The City earns interest on the loan. The NPCA gets the capital it needed to move quickly. Taxpayers aren't on the hook.
That financial arrangement allowed construction to begin last fall and ensured the facility was ready for this season. Without it, residents would have waited considerably longer.
Why It Matters
This is what smart coordination looks like - two organizations identifying a shared problem, finding a practical financing solution, and getting it done. No new tax dollars. No indefinite delays. Just a better experience for the families, seniors, and visitors who use Binbrook Conservation Area every summer.
Those are outcomes worth advocating for.
