We know how important the advanced green at the Upper James and Twenty Road intersection is to residents—especially those living in the adult living communities in the area. From the beginning, we’ve made it a priority to advocate for safer, more accessible traffic flow onto Upper James.
We had been informed that this work would be completed by the end of summer 2025. However, we’ve now learned the project must go back to tender this summer, which pushes the timeline for actual construction to fall 2025 or spring 2026.
While this is a disappointing setback, it comes as a result of complex and necessary design challenges, including:
Guiderails at 3 corners that must be moved to meet AODA compliance
A drainage culvert under the intersection, which limits road widening
A pending car dealership development at the northeast corner that could affect road design
City staff also explored a temporary advanced green using existing signal heads, but technical constraints made that option unworkable.
no overhead signal infrastructure
limited underground capacity
no overhead capabilities
presence of high-voltage cables
We’re understandably disappointed by the delay but recognize the need to get this right—especially when it comes to accessibility, safety, and ensuring any updates align with future development. We will continue to monitor the file closely, and we remain committed to pushing for timely progress wherever possible.
