Have Your Say: Hamilton's Next Age-Friendly Community Plan

Hamilton was Ontario's first age-friendly municipality — and the City is now developing its next Age-Friendly and Dementia-Inclusive Community Plan, covering 2027 to 2031.

This plan guides how Hamilton supports older adults in staying active and connected, accessing programs and services, and living safely and independently in their communities. It's developed through a partnership between the City of Hamilton, the Hamilton Council on Aging, and the Seniors Advisory Committee.

Who Should Participate

The engagement process is open to all residents aged 50 and older across all wards — including long-time residents and newcomers, those living in urban, suburban, and rural areas, caregivers, and business owners. The goal is to hear from a genuinely diverse cross-section of the community, reflecting different living situations, health needs, incomes, cultures, and experiences.

How to Get Involved

There are several ways to participate through July 2026:

Online Survey — A public survey is now live and open throughout the engagement period. It invites residents to share what's working well, where improvements are needed, and what matters most as Hamilton plans for an aging population. Paper copies are available at all Municipal Service Centres and Seniors Recreation Centres.

Community Feedback Stations — Through May and June, feedback boards are being placed at accessible, community-based locations across all wards. Locations and dates are posted on the project page.

Focused Conversations — The City is also hosting targeted sessions with specific community groups, equity-deserving populations, and organizations with lived and professional expertise in aging.

What Happens Next

Input gathered through this process will directly shape the priorities and actions of the 2027–2031 plan, which comes to Council in January 2027.
