Airport Employment Growth District — East-West Arterial Road Network Environmental Assessment

The City of Hamilton has initiated a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (EA) for the proposed Airport Employment Growth District (AEGD) East-West Arterial Road Network. While this project is primarily located in the Ancaster area adjacent to Ward 11, it has potential implications for residents and traffic patterns in our community.
What the Study Is About
The AEGD East-West Arterial Road Network EA is examining road improvements needed to support long-term growth in the Airport Employment Growth District — one of Hamilton's major employment areas. The study is following Phases 2 to 4 of the Municipal Class EA process.
Specifically the study is looking at four improvements: widening the existing Book Road East from Highway 6 to Smith Road, extending Dickenson Road West from Glancaster Road to Smith Road, providing a new arterial road from Southcote Road and Book Road to Glancaster Road, and implementing a cul-de-sac on the eastern portion of Book Road East.
These improvements are intended to meet transportation needs identified through the Airport Employment Growth District Transportation Master Plan, which has been updated in 2011, 2016, and 2024.
Why Ward 11 Residents Should Be Aware
Although this EA is centred in the Ancaster area, the road network under study connects directly to corridors that Ward 11 residents use regularly. I have been briefed by the project team on the study materials and am engaged in this process to ensure Ward 11 interests are considered as the EA advances.
Public Information Centre
A Public Information Centre is being planned for early May 2026 at Mount Hope Community Centre. This is an opportunity for residents to learn about the study, review the alternatives being considered, and provide feedback directly to the project team.
Confirmed date and time will be posted at the link below as details are finalized. Check back for updates.
