The Ontario government is investing $41 million over four years into Agricultural Research and Innovation Ontario (ARIO) infrastructure - research that directly benefits farmers in Ward 11 and across the province.
Key projects include:
$24 million for the new Ontario Poultry Research Centre at the Elora Research Station, supporting over 1,200 chicken and turkey producers and 432 egg farmers
$15.5 million for the Ontario Feed Innovation Centre, focusing on nutritional research for swine, poultry, small ruminants, and aquaculture
Modern agriculture faces complex challenges - from disease management and feed efficiency to environmental sustainability and market competition. ARIO’s network of 14 research stations helps test and validate new practices before farmers adopt them, reducing risk and improving outcomes.
When these research stations develop better feed formulations, disease prevention strategies, or soil management techniques, the findings are shared with farmers across Ontario - including those right here in Ward 11. The research translates into practical, usable solutions that support local agriculture.
This announcement was made during Ontario Agriculture Week (October 6–12), a time to recognize the farmers, processors, and distributors who provide local food and help preserve Ward 11’s rural character.
