As you may or may not be aware, the Erland Lee Museum on Ridge Road in Rural Upper Stoney Creek, has had the doors closed. As of this date, there is no indication if and when those doors will re-open. The Erland Lee Museum is recognized Nationally, Provincially and Municipally as a historically significant location.
The decision to close the Museum was made by the Executive Board for the Women’s Institute which is located in Guelph, Ontario. Many members of the local Women’s Institute and residents of the Community are upset with this closure and are doing everything possible to ensure that the Erland Lee Museum is re-opened.
Both Erland and his wife Janet Lee, who resided in this home, were instrumental in the founding of the Women’s Institute Organization in 1897 and that included holding the first meeting.
This will be a “peaceful protest” for the Lee being closed. Bring your cameras and Tea will be supplied by Tim Horton’s at Mud St & Upper Centennial Pkwy.
Councillor Brenda Johnson will be attending and is hoping that many will attend in a show of support. Councillor Johnson has also asked the City Manager to investigate every possible avenue that the City can look at in order to assist with keeping the Erland Lee Museum open. Let’s start with a strong show of support for the ” Tea at the Lee “.
