Significant Weather Event Declared for Hamilton
February 12, 2025
The City of Hamilton has declared a Significant Weather Event effective 2:00 p.m. today due to a combination of heavy snowfall, freezing rain, and high winds expected over the next 24 hours.
As a result, the standard timelines for winter maintenance objectives will be suspended. While City road crews are fully prepared to respond to this storm, the completion times for snow clearing may extend beyond typical targets due to the severity of the weather conditions.
What This Means for Residents
Snowfall & Road Conditions: A total of 15-20 cm of snow is expected, with rapid accumulation between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Winds from the northeast are expected to cause blowing snow and reduced visibility.
Road Maintenance: All Priority 1 roads, escarpment accesses, and parkways have been pre-treated. Crews are actively monitoring conditions and will continue plowing and salting as needed.
Service Impacts: Residents should anticipate delays in snow clearing due to the significant accumulation expected overnight.
