Hello Ward 11 neighbours,
With the recent snowfall wrapping up yesterday (the last winter event officially ended at 11 a.m. on December 13, 2025), this is a quick reminder about our responsibilities under the City's Snow and Ice By-law No. 03-296.
Property owners and occupants are required to clear snow and ice from the sidewalks next to your property – including any sections of roof that overhang the City sidewalk – within 24 hours after the end of a snow event.
This isn't just about avoiding fines – it's about keeping our community safe for everyone: kids walking to school, seniors heading out, neighbours with mobility challenges, and anyone enjoying a winter stroll in Glanbrook. Slippery sidewalks can lead to falls, and we all want to look out for each other.
A few quick tips:
Shovel early and often if needed – it's easier in smaller amounts.
Use salt or ice melter sparingly to protect our lawns and pets.
Never push snow into the street – it creates hazards for drivers and plows.
If you're unable to shovel due to age or health, check out the City's Snow Angels program for assistance: https://www.hamilton.ca/home-neighbourhood/snow-clearing/snow-angels
For full details on snow clearing rules and City services, visit: https://www.hamilton.ca/home-neighbourhood/getting-around/streets-sidewalks/snow-clearing
You can also track City plows in real-time at the Plow Tracker: https://hamilton.plowtracker.com (great for seeing when your street might get attention).
Stay safe and warm out there – let's keep Glanbrook moving this winter!
Take care, Councillor Mark Tadeson
