Firstly I would like to thank those who attended my recent community meeting to hear the findings of the recreation survey and also to hear the presentation from the Crime Manager of our area.I also want to thank those who could not make the meeting but contacted me prior to provide their input.
As stated in that meeting, the recreation survey is just the first step to look at the needs of recreational programs within Winona and Rural Upper Stoney Creek. Although the survey was mentioned many times in the Stoney Creek News and was available at my community meeting back in November, on my website as well as the Stoney Creek Municipal Centre, the number of respondants were not as high as I would have liked. Please look for my booth at the Winona Peach Festival to access the next step which is a detailed check off list for recreation programs.
I also want to thank everyone for their patience regarding the secondary plans for the Stoney Creek Urban Boundary Expansion (SCUBE). The staff are presenting the watershed study results at our General Issues Committee this week. It is expected that the secondary plan (there is zoning for 4-6 storey apartment buildings) will be presented to the planning committee in October. If you are curious and want to know more information about SCUBE, please contact me.
As a result of a number of inquiries by local residents, as your Councillor, I have had a discussion with the developer regarding the Fifty Road development. He stated that in additon to a Walmart, they are planning for a Costco as well. Although nothing has been confirmed by City of Hamilton’s staff, I just wanted to let the residents to know that nothing has been confirmed at this time.
If you need to renew your dog license or get a new license, drop by the Stoney Creek Municipal Office, 4280 Binbrook Road and they’ll issue you one and also give you free scented poop & scoop bags with a lime green carrying container while supplies last. If it’s not time to renew and you’d like one, it can also be purchased as well as refills.
School is almost complete for another year and students will be out and about over the summer months, please remember to drive safely and have an eye out for children playing or riding their bikes. The City has a number of summer programs that you can take advantage of and they are listed on the city web page or you can pickup a copy of the Summer Recreation Guide which is at the Municipal Service Centre or your local library.
