Hamilton, ON September 6, 2016, – Applications are now being accepted to participate in Hamilton’s second annual Camp FFIT (Female Firefighters in Training).
Camp FFIT provides young women aged 15-19 with a unique opportunity to explore the fire service as a career. Activities include firefighting tasks such as search and rescue, hose techniques, aerial ladder climbing, using protective firefighter gear as well as learning about fitness and nutrition. Beyond building excitement for firefighting as a career, Camp FFIT seeks to boost the confidence and leadership skills of young women.
The cost of Camp FFIT is $50 which includes a t-shirt, lunches, and all instruction. Subsidies are available through the City of Hamilton Recreation Subsidy program for those who qualify.
Applicants are asked to complete a form including a short essay detailing their interest in firefighting. Applications are available at www.hamilton.ca/campffit. Deadline for applications is Friday, September 23, 2016.
The camp will take place at Hamilton’s Multi Agency Training Centre, 1227 Stone Church Road East (at Nebo Road), Hamilton, Ontario from October 14-16, 2016.
Camp FFIT began in 2009 as an initiative of Ottawa Fire and Fire Service Women Ontario (FSWO), and has since spread to a number of Ontario cities.
