Water Billing Transition to the City (HUB)

Water Billing Has Moved to the City — Here's What You Need to Know


Starting April 2026, Hamilton residents and businesses receive their water bills directly from the City of Hamilton through the new Hamilton Utilities Billing (HUB) system. This change follows Alectra Utilities' decision to discontinue water billing services.

Your water service, quality, and rates are unchanged. This is a billing transition only.


Your New Account Number


Your HUB account number is new and different from your Alectra account number. It will appear on your first HUB bill. You'll need this number for all future payments — including setting up your bank payee and any correspondence with the City about your account.


What You May Need to Do


Depending on how you currently pay, there are a few things to take care of:

If you were enrolled in pre-authorized debit with Alectra, that arrangement does not transfer automatically. You'll need to re-enroll with HUB to continue automatic payments. You can do this at my.hamilton.ca or through the instructions at hamilton.ca/HUB.


If you pay through your bank online, by phone, or in person, you'll need to add Hamilton Utilities Billing as a new payee and use your new HUB account number.

If you pay by cheque, make it payable to Hamilton Utilities Billing and mail to the address on your bill.


Credit card payments are accepted through the online portal (Visa and Mastercard only, maximum $1,000, single payments only — fees apply).


Grace Period on Late Fees


To support residents through the transition, the City will not be charging late payment fees, interest on overdue balances, or taxes related to unpaid water bills between launch and July 1, 2026. There is breathing room to get set up — use it.


Managing Your Account Online


Residents can access and manage their HUB account at my.hamilton.ca — a secure online portal where you can view bills, make payments, and update account information.


Your Electricity Bill Is Not Affected


Electricity billing remains with Alectra Utilities with no changes to account numbers or payment methods. Only water billing has moved.
