Ward 11 Public Safety Update: What the Latest Data Shows

Hamilton Police Service publishes regular ward-level reports on crime, collisions, and calls for service. To help keep residents informed, here’s a clear summary of what the latest data tells us about Ward 11.

A Notable Trend: Sustained Low Levels of Shootings

Ward 11 recorded zero shootings in 2023, 2024, and 2025, with a five-year average of 0.6 per year. This sustained pattern points to consistently low levels of this type of serious incident in our community.

2025 Annual Overview

In 2025:

  • Violent crime: 131 incidents (above the five-year average of 123.6)

  • Property crime: 453 incidents (above the average of 398.4)

These increases are important to recognize and continue to inform priorities around prevention, community safety, and infrastructure.

At the same time:

  • Citizen-generated calls for service: 2,037 (below the five-year average of 2,138.6)

This indicates fewer reported calls requiring police response compared to recent years.

Road Safety Remains a Key Concern

Ward 11 recorded 471 collisions in 2025, significantly above the five-year average of 345.6. This ongoing trend underscores the importance of continued investment in road safety measures.

Recent progress includes the approved pedestrian crossover at Southbrook Drive and Tanglewood Drive, with additional improvements continuing to be a priority.

March 2026 Snapshot

The most recent data (March 2026) shows:

  • Calls for service: 194 (above the monthly average of 176.5)

  • Collisions: 50 (above the monthly average of 31.1)

Motor vehicle collisions were the most common call type for the month, followed by assists to ambulance and fire services, and reports of suspicious activity.

Year-to-date (January–March 2026):

  • Property crime: 113 incidents

  • Violent crime: 38 incidents

What This Means

No community is without challenges. The data shows that Ward 11 continues to experience pressures related to property crime and road safety, while also maintaining relatively low levels of the most serious forms of violent crime.

Continuing to monitor these trends helps guide where attention and investment are most needed.

I will continue to share updates as new data becomes available.
