Ward 11 road and traffic updates

Residents regularly contact Councillor Tadeson’s office about road safety, traffic delays and deteriorating shoulders. The following is the latest information staff have provided after the office followed up on these concerns.

Highway 56 and Kirk Road

Traffic signals and left-turn lanes are under construction at Highway 56 and Kirk Road. Residents raised traffic-safety concerns with Councillor Tadeson’s office, and staff have confirmed the work is part of Traffic Design and Construction’s current C15-36-25 tender.

Upper James Street gravel shoulders

Gravel shoulder rehabilitation is planned this construction season along the west side of Upper James Street (Highway 6), from approximately 2624 Highway 6 south to Homestead Drive. The work follows concerns raised about shoulder deterioration, washouts and roadway-edge conditions.

Staff have not provided a construction date or confirmed paving as part of this work.

White Church Road East shoulder

Councillor Tadeson discussed paving the shoulder on White Church Road East to the McDonald’s entrance at Upper James Street with the Director. Staff advised that the work will be completed in-house and is anticipated by the end of September.

Upper James Street and White Church Road

The intersection is operating on temporary fixed-time signal timings because the underground vehicle-detection equipment has failed. That equipment normally detects vehicles and adjusts signal timings.

Staff are reviewing interim detection options. They have advised that the condition of the existing roadway and underground infrastructure makes repair of the current system difficult. A future complete rebuild of the intersection is planned and will include replacement of the detection infrastructure.

Nebo Road

The section of Nebo Road from Rymal Road East to Twenty Road East is in design for 2026.

Binbrook Road

The section of Binbrook Road from Trinity Church Road to Fletcher Road is programmed for 2027 as part of Binbrook/Glanbrook Recreation Centre servicing.

Project schedules may change as work progresses. Councillor Tadeson’s office will share further information as staff provide it.

Cemetery Road and Highway 56

Transportation Planning has completed a feasibility study of the T-intersection at Cemetery Road and Highway 56. Staff will review the findings with the Transportation Division.

The preliminary plan is for Transportation to begin detailed design work in 2027 for an intersection widening and submit a Capital Detail Sheet for construction funding during the 2028 Capital Budget approval cycle. This is a preliminary plan; construction funding has not yet been approved.

Glancaster Road safety improvements

The Glancaster Road Safety Study is complete. Councillor Tadeson is bringing a staff-supported motion to Council next week for consideration. The proposed safety work includes speed cushions and other improvements.

If Council approves the motion, staff expect the improvements to be installed within approximately two months. The timing remains subject to Council approval and the City’s implementation process.

Golf Club Road trunk sewer

Councillor Tadeson’s office has asked staff for an update on the Golf Club Road trunk sewer project. The office will share the information on the Ward 11 website once it is available.
