Progress in Ward 11 and Across Hamilton

As your Councillor, I often focus on our city’s challenges - but it’s just as important to celebrate the progress we’re making, especially here in Ward 11.

After years of delay, major projects are finally moving forward. As Co-Chair of the Airport Subcommittee, I’m proud to announce the completion of the $400 million airport lease. This secures Hamilton’s airport as Canada’s largest overnight cargo hub and has already brought Porter Airlines service to our community. I also helped establish the Airport Revenue Reserve Community Fund, which will contribute $30,000 annually to directly support Mount Hope initiatives.

City-wide, long-stalled developments are gaining traction. The Jamesville demolition is underway, and the $300 million TD Coliseum transformation is nearly complete - soon to host major events, starting with Sir Paul McCartney.

Despite global challenges, Hamilton’s economy is holding strong. Construction value hit $1.79 billion by Q3 - our second-highest ever. Nearly 2,900 new homes were approved, and major employers like IKEA, Reiser, and Fusion Pharmaceuticals are investing here. Hamilton was again named a top Canadian city for investment by Site Selection Magazine.

On housing, the City is supporting 21 new projects and unlocking land for non-market housing. By 2026, we expect $41 million invested in 2,100 new homes, with groundbreakings already underway at Indwell, Victoria Park, Kiwanis, and City Housing Hamilton sites.

Infrastructure is improving too: 150 km of road resurfaced this year - a 53% increase. Development charges were cut by 20% for residential, commercial, and industrial projects, and new digital tools are streamlining approvals.

Ward 11 thrives when Hamilton thrives. Jobs created at the airport, in construction, and in manufacturing bring income directly into our neighbourhoods.

Challenges remain - roads, housing affordability, and service improvements - but the momentum is real.

Hamilton is moving forward. Let’s keep building on that.
