How to avoid it: -Wear protective clothing when hiking or in naturalized areas (also prevents ticks). -Learn how to identify poison ivy, Oak and Sumac in all seasons. -Wash your skin and/or your pet’s fur after being in wooded areas.

What to do if you have come in contact with Poison Ivy: -Immediately rinse your skin with lukewarm, soapy water to prevent spreading -Wash your clothing and everything that may have come in contact with the oil. -Do not scratch, as scratching can cause an infection. -Leave blisters alone. -Take lukewarm baths and apply calamine lotion. -Consider taking antihistamine pills to reduce itching.
