I am pleased to announce an eagerly awaited update! The City of Hamilton's Transportation Operations Division will soon begin installing a new Pedestrian Crossover (PXO) at Garth Street, just north of Garth Trails Crescent. This important safety improvement will make crossing Garth Street safer and more accessible for pedestrians in our community. Local residents in the area alerted the Councillor to this need back when he was campaigning 3 years ago, and this was one of the first initiatives he undertook as a new Councillor. Since that time, we have continued to receive many requests for a crosswalk for residents in this area, and we have listened and delivered! We are pleased to help bring this vision to reality.
Project Details - New Pedestrian Crossover
Construction is scheduled to commence in May 2025, with work being performed by Decew Construction, who was awarded Contract C15-44-24.

The project includes:

Construction of a raised crosswalk to enhance pedestrian safety and traffic calming
AODA enhancements including tactile walking surface indicators
Curb and sidewalk reconstruction
New traffic signal infrastructure
Updated pavement markings
The raised crosswalk design follows Transportation Association of Canada (TAC) guidelines and will include proper signage to alert drivers to both the pedestrian crossing and the change in road surface.
