A New Secondary School for a Growing Community

The Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board (HWCDSB) has announced plans for a new Catholic secondary school in Binbrook. The proposed site is located just north of Binbrook Road and east of Fletcher Road—within easy walking and driving distance for many local families. This new school responds to the significant growth we’ve seen in Ward 11, ensuring that students have access to high-quality Catholic education close to home.

With space for up to 1,100 students, the school will be a modern two-story facility featuring on-site parking, safe student drop-off areas, state of the art technology and programming, and environmental protections such as stormwater management and natural buffers.

Ensuring Access for All Eligible Students: Binbrook Secondary School

Councillor Mark Tadeson has been in close communication with HWCDSB and City planning staff to ensure that the new school site meets the needs of our growing population—not just in terms of design, but also in terms of equitable access.

All students living within the designated Catholic secondary school catchment area are eligible to attend, regardless of whether they currently attend a public or Catholic elementary school. Families who wish to transfer from public schools will follow the HWCDSB’s regular registration process. Councillor Tadeson has emphasized that clear communication and accessibility are key, so that no family feels left out or confused about eligibility.

The site itself has been selected to serve the entire catchment fairly, reducing long travel times and easing pressure on existing school infrastructure. Councillor Tadeson has also worked to ensure that the process includes opportunities for residents to ask questions and provide input, especially during this early stage.

You're Invited: Community Open House

To keep the process transparent and inclusive, HWCDSB is hosting an Open House for all community members to view site plans, speak with project leads, and provide feedback that will be submitted as part of the City’s planning review.
