Keeping Our Playgrounds, Spray Pads, and Courts in Top Shape

The City of Hamilton is proud to offer a wide variety of playgrounds, spray pads, and play courts for residents of all ages to enjoy. Our Parks team works hard behind the scenes to make sure these spaces are safe, clean, and fun throughout the year.
Here’s a look at what you can expect for 2025!
Playground Maintenance Program
Hamilton is home to 291 playgrounds that provide endless opportunities for fun, creativity, and outdoor adventure. To keep them in excellent condition:
Certified staff conduct monthly inspections to ensure equipment meets all Canadian Safety Association (CSA) standards.
Regular maintenance includes:
Litter and debris removal
Garbage collection
Safety surface maintenance
Graffiti removal
From May through September, during peak usage, maintenance is increased to ensure that every visit to the playground is clean, safe, and welcoming.
Spray Pad Maintenance Program
Splashing fun is back every summer at Hamilton’s 71 spray pads!
Season: Open from the May long weekend until the end of September.
Operating Hours: 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with water systems equipped with sensors to save water by operating only when needed.
During Heat Warnings: Select spray pads will operate longer hours (9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.) to help residents cool off, including:
Waterdown Memorial Park
Dundas Driving Park
Village Green Park
William Connell Park
Gord Oaks (Mount Hope) Park
Gage Park
Winona Park
Binbrook Fairgrounds Community Park
Pier 4 Park
Heritage Green

Regular inspections, cleaning, and system monitoring help keep these spaces safe and fun for everyone all summer long!
Play Court Maintenance Program
Hamilton maintains approximately 172 play courts, including public tennis courts, basketball courts, multi-purpose courts, and pickleball courts.
Maintenance highlights include:
Tennis courts: Maintained from late April to the last week of October.
Pickleball courts: Maintained from early May to the last week of October.
Basketball and Multi-purpose courts: Maintained year-round, weather permitting.
Each year, courts undergo:
Detailed spring inspections to identify any repairs or improvements needed.
Regular in-season maintenance, including litter and debris removal, garbage pickup, and graffiti removal, to keep courts looking great and ready for play.
