On Tuesday I was happy to be on the ground in Ward 11 to welcome IKEA to our community, for their groundbreaking new addition to the Red Hill South Industrial Park in Glanbrook! IKEA Canada has officially begun construction on a state-of-the-art Customer Distribution Centre (CDC) and Collection Point at 212 Glover Road, bringing a completely sustainable, gold-standard facility to our city. This initiative represents a major step forward in sustainability and economic growth for Hamilton and, more specifically, Ward 11!

Welcome to Ward 11, IKEA!

The new 483,285-square-foot distribution centre is designed with sustainability at the forefront, incorporating solar panels on the roof, heat pumps in the ground, and high-efficiency energy systems to significantly reduce its environmental impact. This facility is targeting Net Zero Carbon national certification, LEED Gold certification, and net positive energy annually, reinforcing IKEA’s commitment to a greener future.

More Jobs, Faster Service

This exciting development will bring 180 new jobs to our community, bolstering our local economy while providing faster service and more convenient access to IKEA goods across the city. The Hamilton CDC will play a pivotal role in IKEA’s fulfilment network, ensuring products are more readily available and delivery times are reduced for customers in the Greater Hamilton Area.

Additionally, the site will include a Collection Point, making order pickups more accessible for Hamiltonians and further enhancing the city’s retail landscape.

A Major Investment in Hamilton

As part of a $400 million investment in IKEA’s omnichannel strategy, this project represents a long-term commitment to enhancing customer experience while fostering job creation. In addition to warehouse operations, roles will include delivery, kitchen installation, design services, B2B sales, and third-party assembly. IKEA is also committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, ensuring a supportive workplace for all employees, with dedicated Co-worker Resource Groups supporting racialized, Indigenous, and 2SLGBTQ+ communities.

Looking Ahead

The IKEA Hamilton CDC and Collection Point is set to open in summer 2027. This facility will not only redefine retail convenience but also establish Hamilton as a leader in sustainable business practices.

Kudos to IKEA for bringing a world-class, environmentally responsible facility to Ward 11 and our community!

Stay tuned for more updates on this transformative project. 🌟
