HAMILTON, ON – The Hamilton Fire Department has announced that the ban on open air burning, which was previously issued on August 12, 2025, will be lifted today, August 21, 2025, at 12 p.m..
The department continuously monitors environmental and climatic conditions to assess fire and life-safety risks. With a forecasted increase in precipitation, the fire risk associated with open air burning has decreased.
Property owners who have a valid Open Air Burn Permit are now permitted to resume open air burning. They are reminded to follow the guidelines provided with their permit. It is important to note that burn permits are only issued for properties in the rural areas of the City of Hamilton, and open air burning is not allowed in urban-designated areas.
The Hamilton Fire Department will continue to monitor fire risk levels and weather patterns. For more information, residents can visit www.hamilton.ca/fire. The Hamilton Fire Department thanks all residents for their cooperation during the ban.
