Councillor Johnson speaks at the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum Remembrance Day Service

On behalf of the City of Hamilton, Ward 11, Mount Hope I want to welcome you to the best Remembrance Day services. I am a little bias about this museum, my father Roy Neville has been a volunteer here for a very long time. We started to come to the Remembrance Day ceremonies when there were only 200 people here and the only cameras were in our coat pockets.

How glorious is this? Sitting among Canada’s rich aviation history to take the time to remember the valuable contributions of our armed forces?

I want to thank the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum volunteers for making this a great place to visit not only today but every day. I encourage you to enjoy this Hamilton gem throughout the year and not just on November 11th. Believe me when I tell you there is always something to do and learn

I also want to congratulate the Lancaster crew volunteers who made the historic trip to England possible this past summer. I can now confess and tell you that my twitter account doubled during that time because those from England were sending pictures for me to post here in Canada. I will never get bored looking at our beloved Vera and Royal Air Force Thumper in the air together.

Looking around, we can proudly say that Hamilton is no stranger to volunteering especially in our armed forces

We as a city can be extremely proud of our men and women who participated in the Boer War, WW1, WW2, Korea, Vietnam, the Gulf, Yugoslavia, Afghanistan as well as UN & NATO’s peace keeping missions, and some were not so peaceful.

Unfortunately, our most recent page in military history has been written in Hamilton’s blood again with tragic death of Corporal Nathan Cirillo.  Our thoughts and prayers are with his family especially today.

From the bottom of my heart and I join all Hamiltonians when I humbly thank the veterans and those still in service. Thank you one and all for supporting our men and women in uniform and it is times like these we are showing the world “WE WILL NEVER FORGET” yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

God Bless
