Civic Holiday service changes: Monday, August 3

All City of Hamilton administrative offices will be closed Monday, August 3 and reopen Tuesday, August 4, 2026. Some City services will also be closed or have adjusted hours.
For City emergencies involving roads, noise, watermains, sewer systems, animal emergencies, or health and safety issues, call 905-546-2489 (CITY). The my.hamilton.ca portal provides a secure place to access a growing number of City services online.
Waste collection
There will be no collection Monday, August 3 for garbage, green bin, yard waste, bulk garbage or blue box materials. Collection will occur one day later for the rest of the week. Set waste out by 7 a.m. on collection day. Transfer stations and community recycling centres will be closed. Find your collection day at hamilton.ca/Waste.
Transit
HSR buses will operate on a Sunday service schedule, with the last trips from downtown at midnight. There will be no service on Routes 12 Wentworth and 42 Mohawk East. MyRide on-demand and Trans-Cab services will follow HSR Sunday schedules.
DARTS will operate holiday service hours. Subscription trips are cancelled except dialysis trips, and advance booking is required for travel on August 3.
Recreation, libraries and City facilities
Recreation centres, arenas and seniors centres will be closed. Outdoor pools will be open for regular programming.
Hamilton Public Library branches will be closed August 2 and 3. The Bookmobile will be off the road and Extended Access will not be available. Online services are available through hpl.ca.
Hamilton Civic Museums, the Hamilton Farmers’ Market, the Tropical Greenhouse at Gage Park, the Animal Services Office and Shelter, and several public-health and administrative services will also be closed.
Additional closures and service changes
Customer Service Lines, the ATS Customer Service Office and HSR Customer Service at 36 Hunter Street East will be closed. Phone service remains available daily, including holidays, from 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. at 905-546-2489.
The Health Connections phone line; Housing Services Office; Licensing and By-law Services phone line and service counters; Municipal Service Centres; Ontario Works Program; Special Supports Program; Provincial Offences Administration Office; public-health administrative offices; Alcohol, Drug and Gambling Services; Child and Adolescent Services Walk-In Clinic; dental clinics and bus; Macassa Lodge Adult Day Program; and the Needle Syringe Program evening van service will be closed.
There will be no parking enforcement from August 2 at 10 p.m. until August 3 at 10 p.m. Regular enforcement resumes August 3 at 10 p.m. Proactive enforcement may occur for special events and areas of interest.
