City Services Update for Monday, January 26, 2026

City of Hamilton facilities, services, and programs are open today, Monday, January 26, 2026. However, there are service impacts due to road conditions and cold weather.

A Significant Weather Event remains in effect, meaning winter maintenance service timelines are delayed.

Road Conditions

Main roads are cleared but remain snow covered. Crews began moving into residential streets around 3:00 a.m. and continue operations. A first round of City-maintained sidewalks is expected to be completed by approximately 6:00 a.m. Snow removal may still be underway at some City parking lots and facilities. Please use caution and allow extra travel time.

Recreation Impacts

• Delayed openings: Recreation centres, senior centres, and arenas will open at 9:00 a.m.

• Bennetto Recreation Centre: All daytime and evening programs are cancelled until further notice to support the warming centre.

• Senior Centres: Day and evening programming is cancelled, however buildings remain open at:

  • Ancaster Senior Achievement Centre

  • Flamborough Seniors’ Centre

  • Sackville Seniors’ Centre

• Shared school facilities: Due to Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board school closures, programs using school gymnasiums, including afterschool programming, are cancelled.

Waste Collection

• All curbside waste collection is cancelled today, including garbage, green bin, recycling, and bulk waste.

• Collection will occur one day later this week.

• Residents are asked to bring waste in from the curb and place it back out by 7:00 a.m. tomorrow.

• The City’s three Transfer Stations and Community Recycling Centres plan to open at 8:00 a.m. as scheduled.

Accessible Transportation

• DARTS service is operating today, but customers should expect delays. Please ensure walkways and driveways are cleared of snow.

• Seniors’ Dental Bus is not operating today due to weather.

Hamilton Public Library

Due to winter weather conditions, Hamilton Public Library is adjusting operations today. The following branches will be open 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.:

• Central Library

• Dundas Branch

• Red Hill Branch

• Terryberry Branch
