City Offering Drop-In Clinics to Support 2025 Vacant Unit Tax Declarations

The City of Hamilton is offering a series of in-person, drop-in clinics to help residential property owners complete their 2025 Vacant Unit Tax declaration accurately and on time.

City staff will be available to provide one-on-one assistance. No appointment is required. Residents should bring their Notice to Declare letter or most recent property tax bill, which contains the roll number and access code needed to complete the declaration.

ℹ️ About the Vacant Unit Tax

The Vacant Unit Tax is designed to increase housing supply by encouraging residential properties to remain occupied rather than vacant. After administrative costs are recovered, revenues are reinvested into affordable housing initiatives.

The tax applies to all properties classified as residential by MPAC, including single-family homes, townhouses, and multi-unit residential buildings. In Hamilton, this represents approximately 180,000 properties
