Weather Impacts Update

The City of Hamilton continues to monitor weather conditions and adjust services accordingly. Residents can always check hamilton.ca/weatherimpactsĀ for the most up-to-date closure information.

šŸ• A second update will be shared at approximately 1:00 pm. The Ward 11 office is open and working for you.


Facility Closures


All City administrative offices and City facilities are closed today.

āœ”ļø The Hamilton Farmers’ Market remains open.


Closed facilities include:

  • City Hall and all Municipal Service Centres

  • Recreation and Community Centres

  • Arenas

  • Hamilton Civic Museums

  • Visitor Experience Centre (28 James St. N)

  • Provincial Offences Administration (POA) Courts and counters

    • Residents will receive future court date notifications by mail.

  • Ontario Works / Low Income Program Offices

    • 250 Main St. E and 1550 Upper James

    • Services available through MyBenefitsĀ or by phone: 905-546-4800

  • Red Hill Family Centre

  • Macassa Lodge Adult Day Program



Service Impacts


Meetings & Events

  • Audit, Finance and Administration Committee (9:30 am)Ā will be held virtually.

  • Vacant Unit Tax Drop-In Clinic (Flamborough MSC)Ā is cancelled.

  • Public Health Dental ClinicsĀ are closed today and will reopen Friday, January 16.

  • 2026 Hamilton New Year’s LeveeĀ at City Hall is cancelled this evening.

    • Order of Hamilton recipients will be recognized at ceremonies on January 16 and 17.



Transit & Transportation

  • HSR buses are experiencing significant delays. Use real-time trip planning apps for arrival times and alerts.

  • HSR Customer Service Counter at Hamilton GO Centre remains open.

  • DARTS (Disabled and Aged Regional Transit System) is not operating today.



Recreation Program Cancellations


Due to inclement weather, all daytime and evening programs and rentals are cancelled todayĀ at:


  • Recreation & Community Centres

  • Arenas

  • Seniors Centres and Clubs

  • Golf Centres


Affected programs include:

  • Registered and drop-in programs

  • Rentals

  • Seniors programs

  • After-school programs

  • EarlyON programs in recreation centres



Waste Collection


  • Curbside Collection:Ā Crews are operating but delays are expected.Areas not collected today will be prioritized tomorrow.

  • Transfer Stations / Community Recycling Centres:Ā All three locations are open.

    • The Re-Use Store at the Mountain Transfer Station is closed.



Roads & Snow Clearing


Transportation crews remain fully deployed clearing:

  • Roads and sidewalks

  • Bus stops and crosswalks

  • Designated bike lanes


Current focus

  • Priority 1 roads (main routes, escarpment crossings, parkways)

  • Snow removal near schools

  • Overpasses and BIAs

  • Residential streets

Residential & Sidewalk Reminders


  • Please park off the street where possible.Ā Parked vehicles slow snow clearing.

  • Property owners are normally responsible for clearing sidewalks within 24 hours after snowfall.āš ļø Due to the declared Significant Weather Event, this requirement is temporarily paused.

  • WindrowsĀ (snow left at driveways and sidewalks by plows) are unavoidable. Shovel carefully and help neighbours where you can.

  • Clear fire hydrants.

  • Drive according to conditions.

  • Give snow crews space to operate safely.
