City of Hamilton Investing Over $150 Million in 2026 to Renew Roads — With Benefits for Ward 11

The City of Hamilton is moving forward with more than $150 million in 2026 to repair, resurface, and upgrade transportation infrastructure across the city. This investment directly addresses resident priorities identified during the budget process, with infrastructure renewal and road conditions among the top concerns.
Of the total investment, $106.1 million is dedicated specifically to renewing and replacing existing roads, sidewalks, and bridges as part of the City’s broader $622‑million infrastructure program.
Why This Matters for Ward 11
Residents in Stoney Creek Mountain and surrounding areas depend on reliable arterial and connector roads. Seasonal weather continues to be a major challenge: winter freeze–thaw cycles cause pavement cracking and shifting, which can create potholes and uneven surfaces. The City confirms that these conditions commonly worsen in late winter and early spring as the ground beneath the pavement expands and contracts.
To manage these seasonal impacts, Hamilton completes between 70,000 and 90,000 road repairs each year, with pothole repairs occurring year‑round.
This spring, residents can expect enhanced pothole repair efforts across the city as temperatures stabilize.
