Councillor Johnson is just thrilled to announce that Hamilton City Council has approved unanimously her motion to have the City of Hamilton direct staff to work with the School Board to purchase the “old” Winona Public School on Winona Road.  This included a number of studies which have already been completed to justify the need.

It has been 4 long years in the making, but Councillor Johnson finally has all the City approvals in place to purchase the School.  The School Board has declared it surplus and the City has advised the School Board of their intention to purchase the site.   The timing is now in the hands of the School board in terms of working through their policy on selling a surplus property.

Brenda has also worked closely with the YWCA, Early Years, Businesses that support Recreation and various Community Groups to make sure that they are on board when we get the school.  The YWCA, Early Years and City Staff are eager to start programs as soon as the building is ready to open.

Councillor Johnson would like to thank the community for their assistance, support and especially their patience through this long process.  “We have a happy ending to all our hard work.  Thank you !”
