Bicycle & Pedestrian Safety – Share the Road

As the weather warms up and more cyclists and pedestrians take to the roads of ward 11, drivers are reminded to share the road for the safety of those who take part in these activities. To further promote this message stop by any of the bike shops in Hamilton and pick up a free “Share the Road” car magnet to spread the message!

Also take note of the new one-metre passing law. Drivers are required to leave a minimum of one-metre distance when passing a cyclist. The penalty for failing to do so is a $110.00 fine.

Cyclists should also keep in mind the rules of the road. As a cyclists you must share the road with others, obey all traffic laws and maintain the same rights and responsibilities of drivers. You must also stay as close to the right edge of the road whenever possible, especially if you are slower than other traffic
