Airport Employment Growth District Secondary Plan Update – Public Feedback Open Until October 8
The City of Hamilton has completed a draft update to the Airport Employment Growth District Secondary Plan and is asking residents and other interested parties to provide feedback.
The Airport Employment Growth District Secondary Plan guides business park development around John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport. The current plan forms part of the City’s Urban Hamilton Official Plan.
Why is the Secondary Plan being updated?
Council approved an updated Airport Employment Growth District Transportation Master Plan in 2023.
The Secondary Plan now needs to be updated so that its land-use policies and maps reflect that approved transportation plan. This is intended to ensure that future land-use decisions are consistent with the Transportation Master Plan and that development of the transportation network proceeds in accordance with it.
As part of this work, the City is reviewing relevant policies and maps in the Urban and Rural Hamilton Official Plans and the Airport Employment Growth District Secondary Plan. Updates to the area’s Natural Heritage System mapping are also being reviewed.
Any resulting changes will be implemented through an amendment to the City’s Official Plan, which must ultimately be approved by Council.
Draft plan now available for review
The project team has completed the draft Secondary Plan update and has opened a 30-day public comment period from September 8 to October 8, 2026.
The consultation material includes:
the draft Urban Hamilton Official Plan Amendment and revised mapping;
a Planning Justification Report; and
a Fiscal Impact Assessment.
Residents who want their comments considered in the staff report and final recommendations should submit them by October 8, 2026.

Councillor Tadeson’s office is sharing the consultation information so Ward 11 residents have an opportunity to review the proposed changes and provide their comments before the deadline.
