Update From December 9th Community Meeting

In 2015 a motion was brought to council which passed unanimously for City staff to look at the feasibility of buying the property that The 447 Wing occupies (3210 Homestead Drive) or to find a city owned facility to accommodate the Wing. The staff report came back with negative results because the city of Hamilton does not have policies that allow council to use tax payer dollars to buy property for private clubs nor did they have space that was appropriate for the Wing to use.

Currently 3210 Homestead Drive is zoned for mixed use which means it includes both commercial and residential space. The owner is proposing to demolish both 3210 & 3200 Homestead Drive (currently the Wing & The Pigeon) and build another mixed-use building. The City of Hamilton including Councillor Johnson cannot legally oppose such use as it’s currently being used for the same purpose today.

I want to thank everyone who came out to the community meeting on Monday December 9th regarding 3200 & 3210 Homestead Drive. We had many community members as well as members of the 447 Wing. Also in attendance was the City staff, owner of the property and his consultants. Many great questions were asked of both the owner and city staff. Suggestions for relocation to places such as Bobbie’s was mentioned. Having said that, the owner made a public commitment that he will have further talks with the Wing regarding the possibility of the Wing finding a home within the new building.

If you would like to be kept up to date with this particular development, please send an email to Brenda.johnson@hamilton.ca with your name and address indicating your interest and you will be added to the email list.
