On December 13, the Hamilton City Council greenlit the 2024 water and sewer budget, incorporating a 10.4% rate hike. This increase is pivotal for sustaining infrastructure, meeting regulatory standards, and fostering community expansion.
The budget aligns with recent provincial regulatory adjustments:
7.65% of the water rate escalation is attributed to new provincial laws diminishing revenue from development charges and adjusting costs due to other regulatory shifts.
The remaining 2.39% of the increase accounts for elevated expenses in delivering water, wastewater, and stormwater services.
Hamilton City is committed to identifying cost-saving methods and operational efficiencies. This commitment ensures optimal resource utilization to uphold and enhance water, wastewater, and stormwater systems, all while alleviating the financial strain on the community.
