The Clinic is open to the public, free and provided by certified Children’s Restraint Systems Technicians.
At the road side car seat inspections conducted last fall it was noted that many car seat infractions were due to a lack of knowledge. With these clinics, we are hoping to educate more parents and caregivers so their children are ultimately safer on the roads of Hamilton.
Based on research from Transport Canada, 70 per cent of car seats are not used or installed correctly. Statistics from Car Seat Inspection Clinics in Hamilton indicate the rate is closer to 90 per cent, as this number includes seats that are no longer deemed safe by Transport Canada. A $240 fine, plus two demerit points, could be issued by police if your seat or child is not secured correctly.
The City of Hamilton will also be holding Evening Education Sessions for parents and caregivers regarding rear-facing infant and forward-facing car seats.
